I said I wasn’t going to post again until I had news about the album. Here’s a little tidbit. We’ve started recording with Nick Peterson at Track and Field Studios. The going will be slow because of how much time I spend in the hospital, so don’t expect it to drop anytime soon. But it’s coming. The album will consist of full band versions of the solo songs I posted last year, some old songs we haven’t gotten around to recording, and some new ones that you haven’t heard yet. I might even record some of them while I’m in the hospital, who knows.

In the meantime, there is going to be an amazing benefit on June 19th to help raise money for medical bills and everything we’ve lost in this process. Besides the great bands that are playing, one of the most exciting pieces of the benefit is a compilation album of covers of Future Kings songs by local musicians. I’ve heard a few of the tracks and they’re awesome!

So come out if you’re nearby and you have the time. It would be great to see you all again!

Very Bad News

Last week I went into the hospital thinking I had pneumonia and found out that I actually have Stage IV Lymphoma – cancer. Chances are good that I won’t be playing music for a while, as I go through the chemotherapy treatment and the sickness that will go along with it. Hopefully by this time next year I will have beat the cancer into remission. And even more hopefully, I will be able to finish the album during these down months.

I’m finally getting around to uploading some of the rough recordings I made this summer. These are a few of the songs that will be on the upcoming album, except the album versions will have drums and trumpet and bass and all those other fun things. Feel free to download and share these as widely as you want. Your mom is probably looking for new music, why don’t you send her a copy?
